Why We Built This Site
Utah does not keep every criminal-record detail in one public database. The Utah Department of Public Safety, Bureau of Criminal Identification maintains the central Utah Computerized Criminal History repository, but the public does not receive an unrestricted BCI name search. Utah Courts provides public case access through its court systems, the Utah Department of Corrections maintains state custody and supervision information, and the Utah Sex, Kidnap, and Child Abuse Offender Registry serves a separate public-safety purpose. Meanwhile, county agencies create the original bookings, jail entries, police reports, and many court records. We organize those statewide paths and maintain a directory of Utah county resources for records held locally.
What You Will Find Here
- Statewide system guides: what Utah BCI, Utah Courts, the corrections locator, and the offender registry each hold
- Record guides: how Utah criminal court cases can be found and read
- Official record review: how a person requests their own fingerprint-supported Utah history from the Utah BCI repository
- Expungement information: how Utah's petition and Clean Slate processes connect BCI with the court tied to the case
- County routing: links to all 29 Utah county sites for local sheriff, jail, police, and court sources
What We Cannot Do
Utah Criminal History is a privately run reference site. We are not connected with Utah BCI, Utah Courts, the Utah Department of Corrections, a sheriff, a police department, or any other government body. Those boundaries mean we cannot perform official agency work:
- We cannot issue a certified court file, criminal-history record, or rap sheet
- We cannot submit a GRAMA request, expungement petition, or other filing for a visitor
- We cannot retrieve or run an official background check
- We cannot interpret a charge or give advice about a specific Utah case
- We cannot promise that an agency's address, phone number, fee, or procedure has not changed
An official copy must come from the Utah agency that created or maintains it, such as Utah BCI, the filing court, or the responsible county office. We can identify that path, but we cannot supply the document.
Search Partners
Outside providers power search boxes shown on some pages. Each provider controls its own service, results, and prices. We may receive a referral fee if a visitor follows one of those tools and purchases a service, which helps fund public access to our reference material. We do not set partner charges, assemble their results, or guarantee that their information matches an official Utah record.
